A new set of leaked renders is showing us what the Moto X (2017) might look like when it eventually arrives. One thing that’s immediately noticable about these renders is that they match up nicely with the leaked images we saw earlier this month. They come from OnLeaks on behalf of Android Authority, and OnLeaks is usually pretty on point when it comes to these sort of renders.

OnLeaks created these renders using factory CADs, which lends further credibility to them. As Android Authority points out, the final result is a handset that looks similar to the Moto Z, which isn’t very surprising considering how popular the Moto Z turned out to be.

However, that doesn’t necessarily mean that all of the Moto Z’s functionality will carry over to the next Moto X installment. For instance, the renders don’t show any of the contacts necessary to use Moto Mods, which is disappointing. The renders also show a standard micro USB charging port instead of a USB-C one, which could lead to headaches for users considering the current shift to USB-C as the new Android charging standard.

Keep in mind that the Moto X has generally been offered as a mid-range device, so some hardware concessions should be expected. This version of the Moto X is also a little bit thicker than its Moto Z counterparts, clocking in a 8.4mm thick. This could mean that Motorola and Lenovo opt for a beefy battery in the Moto X, which would be a great thing indeed.

We don’t have much in the way of hardware details at this point in time, but if a 2017 model of the Moto X exists, it probably won’t be kept a secret for much longer. Though there’s a chance that it gets a reveal at CES next week, it’s more likely that we’ll see it for the first time at MWC 2017. It’s then that we should find out where, exactly, the Moto X (2017) fits in Motorola’s hardware lineup.
