Xiaomi’s concept smartphone, Mi Mix, was one of the most sumptuous devices to be unveiled last year. It was truly bezel-less, only except for the minimal chin at the bottom to host the sensors and front camera. We have since been relying on the rumor mill, just waiting for the Chinese hardware manufacturer to talk about the successor of this concept smartphone — the Mi Mix 2.

And now, Xiaomi has today confirmed that it is planning to unveil an even feature-packed and (of course!) bezel-less device by the end of this very year. The company’s CEO Lei Jun is the one who has dropped the deeds about the upcoming smartphone on the Chinese Twitter clone Weibo. He mentioned that the device will debut sometime in the second half of the year. Yes, we may not have to wait very long to feast our eyes on this device.

From what we know about the Mi Mix 2 until date, Xiaomi has already confirmed that it has partnered with Phillipe Starck to design and build the device. He is the same individual the Chinese giant has tapped to design the original Mi Mix concept smartphone. The company first released the device in October of last year, so one can expect them to follow a similar timeline for the release of its successor this year.

As per initial leaks, we know that Mi Mix 2 will sport dual-curved edged AMOLED display with a monstrous 6.4-inch screen size and QuadHD resolution. The company will further increase the screen-to-body ratio from 91.3 percent on the original smartphone to 93 percent on the Mi Mix 2. This could also point Xiaomi to experiment with the integration of the fingerprint sensor under the huge display — though it may be just another rumor.

The device is expected to be powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835, along with three different RAM+storage variants, namely 4GB+128GB, 6GB+128GB and finally 8GB+256GB. It will possibly include a 19-megapixel rear camera (or dual cameras) and a 16-megapixel selfie camera. It will run Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box and 4,500 mAh of battery power.

But, the latest development that has been confirmed by Xiaomi today is that it has partnered with AAC Technologies to deliver an even better earpiece sound experience. For those unaware, the earpiece on the Mi Mix was made out of ceramic and integrated under the display. It will now upgrade the sound system with the use of patented Advanced Audio Coding (AAC) technology from its latest collaborator.
