We already know that Nintendo has high confidence in the Nintendo Switch performing well, since they’ve got plans to sell at least 18 million units by March 31st, 2018. Nintendo’s slow trickle of content will keep interest in the Switch for a long time, but it’ll be the holiday offerings that determine whether or not the company will be able to meet their lofty sales expectations.
An analyst for Morgan Stanley feels as though that’s a conservative estimate for the company, stating that he believes Nintendo could be on track to sell closer to 20 million units in the first year, mostly thanks to upcoming titles like Super Mario Odyssey. Because it’s an important part of Nintendo’s holiday sales strategy, the analyst believes the game will launch in November when holiday sales are at their peak.
It shouldn’t be long before we get an actual release date either, as Nintendo has stated that they’ll be focusing mostly on Super Mario Odyssey at this year’s E3 event in Los Angeles. That event takes place between June 13 and June 15, so it probably won’t be long before we know the actual date we’ll be able to see the new 3D Mario game in all its glory.
