If you’re using a desktop or a laptop, there are a number of diagnostic tools built into your operating system that you can use to check various components of your computer. When you’re using your smartphone, however, you might feel as though you have to install a bunch of apps to do the same job.
But this is not the case. There are a large number of tools built into your OnePlus 3 or OnePlus 3T — you just need to know how to find them. As you’ll probably have guessed from the headline, these are not utilities you’re going to find by browsing through the list of installed apps — you need a special code.
Fire up the dialer app on your phone, and type *#808#. There’s no need to hit dial or anything else, as you’ll be immediately dropped into a hidden diagnostic mode — and there are a huge number of components for you to work through.
Not all of them with be of particular interest, and not all of them are very helpfully labeled. The selection of “Production line tests”, for instance, are a mixture of useful (such as the charging information in test 8) and the… well… the less useful. Working through the utilities, you can test your screen, all of the built in sensors, the buttons, the hardware, and so on.
These diagnostic tools may not be the sort of thing you’ll use on a daily basis, but it’s certainly handy to know that they’re there.
