The tradition of judging the drivers against their ratings has been twisted slightly today by cab aggregator, Uber. Making the system a two-way passage, your driver might soon have a look at your rating aka the rider rating. Courtesy of the minor update rolled out by Uber, rider ratings will be displayed right under your name in the app’s menu.

Prior to that, passengers ratings given by a driver were buried deep down in the app. Most of us weren’t even aware of the existence of such a thing. Thanks to the new update and right through the visibility of the ratings, riders can now see how popular or unpopular they are with drivers.

Calling upon the latest update, Uber’s official blog post read,

Many riders forget that their driver is also rating them, too, and things like eating in the car, slamming the door, or trying to pile in more people than seatbelts can impact whether it’s a 5-star experience for drivers. We hope this update will remind riders that mutual respect is an important part of our Community Guidelines.

Through the update, Uber aims to fulfil a two-fold target. While the first one being encouraging better rider behaviour, it also wants to ensure both the driver, as well as riders get an equal and fair chance to speak their side of the story. Considering that, it would help the company retain their drivers, who’ve long been urging them to improve the rating system.

On the other hand, it has also introduced a minor change in the rating system under UberPOOL services. Until now, a rider was subject to reason out only five options for an inconvenient ride — poor route, too many pickups, the co-riders behaviour, navigation and driving. Starting today a new option ‘Other’ has been added where you can share your additional reasons why. Enhancing the product (although minutely!) this would help the company improve their driver experience, witnessing the real reasons for a less-than-5-five star trip. Both of these updates have been rolled out today globally by the company.
